What Tax or Financial Information Should I Have Ready When I Call?
We take a flexible approach to all issues and strive to work in a fashion that is amenable to the client. However, when a client first calls there are certain materials that can help us gain a better understanding of the tax, estate planning, or business concern presented.
To start, the taxpayer should attempt to sum up his or her concern in a brief one to two sentences. Perhaps you are concerned that your estate plan will not provide for a friend or close relative. Others may be worried about their company’s potential failure to pay California sales and use tax to the Board of Equalization. Other questions may involve concerns over tax filings and claimed deductions or exemptions.
Once you have a sense of the general issue, it is wise to start collecting records and paperwork. For instance, if you have a question about your 2015 income tax return filing, it is often useful to obtain and keep a copy of this tax return and the previous year’s tax return. If your question is regarding your assets or wealth building, then having the relevant financial records on hand is frequently extremely useful. If you have questions about the types of documents and records you need to obtain, you can simply ask and we will be happy to explain exactly what you need.
